There are seasons in life when we find ourselves at a threshold—when we can’t clearly see the path ahead yet feel an inner nudge urging us to explore new terrain. These transitions can be both exciting and a little intimidating.
This blog, In The Open Field, is such a threshold for me. Although I’ve always had a writing practice, I have never written a blog before. And honestly, there is a part of me that feels some trepidation about it all. But then I remember that growth requires courage and some committed change. And so I step away from what is familiar to explore what is new and emerging. My hope is that by sharing what is stirring within my inner landscape, it might inspire you on your own journey of inner discovery to push past some resistance and embrace something new and meaningful.
As a fellow inner traveler, I intend not to write from a place of arrival, but from a place of curiosity—where questions are often more faithful companions than answers. I have always been a curious person, and in many ways my life has been shaped by the wanderings I have taken in response to those questions: through wild landscapes, through thresholds of grief and change, and through the long, quiet practice of listening for what asks to be tended next—what is seeking expression. The voice I write from, then, is not one of certainty, but of presence, observation, and discovery.
I envision this as a space for slowing down and simply noticing the world as it is, in all its complexity and beauty. I may share stories or moments of insight that arrive while walking a trail, sitting in silence, or learning to stay with what is unfinished. Some entries may take the shape of short meditations or gentle invitations to practice. I may also share poetry, art, or essays—my own and those of other artists whose work I find meaningful. Like the diversity found in an open field, this space is intended to be inclusive of many voices and impulses.
If you’ve found your way here feeling curious or quietly hungry for a new view, you may find a home here. You don’t need to know where you’re going. You only need a willingness to pause and stand where you are.
Welcome to In The Open Field.
Field note: The ground has the capacity to hold even when the path disappears.
